You make my heart sing

My life is surrounded by music. Even specific events from my younger years are engraved in the music I listen to. A few songs and bands in particular get my through my worst moments, and make my sunny days even brighter.

In middle school, I became a fan of one specific anime: InuYasha. One night I was watching fan-made music videos and I stumbled across this video:

You have permission to call me a nerd. Anyway, at the time I discovered this video, my parents had recently separated and it was the first weekend that my dad was gone from the house. This song made me feel so much better whenever I listened to it. I can not find this recording anywhere, and I desperately wish that I could. I don't listen to this song very often anymore, but when I needed it most during my parents' divorce, I listened to it almost every day. As the song refrains, I believe that there truly is An Angel In My Heart :)

If I am in a particularly sour mood, I like to listen to music like Breaking Benjamin or Shinedown. The guitar solos in particular match my mood almost perfectly in those cases. I feel that I can express myself in a healthier way so that I don't take it out on anyone else. A band that shares this style is Red, and I can say that Breathe Into Me is one of my favorite "upset" songs. Even when I am in a good mood, if I hear that quiet, eerie beginning, and I simply turn up the volume. Luckily, I got to listen live, and it was so much better than just on the radio.

If I just need some music with great lyrics and a pretty sweet tune to go with it, I usually listen to The Fray, Lifehouse, or One Republic. One Republic has a knack for making good music. The melodies go with the lyrics so well, in my opinion. This song holds an especially special place in my heart. Also, the music video is pretty cool:

I hope you enjoy my selections as much as I do :)

  1. Thanks, Libby. I'll admit, your selections aren't so much to my taste, but if it works for you, that's what's important. (I did really like the church bells at the beginning of the One Republic video!) And remember--in the end, the nerds are the ones that rule the world!

Watch your use of "similar" in the beginning of your fourth paragraph. You wouldn't SAY it that way--you'd probably say "I like to listen to music like..." so just type it that way, too.
